Mistakes interior designers make during sales calls

Here's a different way to think about your initial sales calls with potential interior design clients 👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

Mistakes interior designers make during sales calls

👊🏻 Instead of offering free design advice

Set the stage by positioning yourself as an expert and taking a leadership role on the call or in the meeting.

Let them know that the purpose of the meeting is to see if there is a MUTUAL fit for you to work together. This is as much about you finding out if you want to take on the project and work with the client as it is about whether they want to work with you.

👊🏻 Instead of talking too much

Make sure you really listen to what your client is saying.

What are their fears and concerns - what are they struggling with - why do they need your help. Don't just assume you know what they need. You will make a stronger connection by being an active listener.

👊🏻 Instead of letting the client take over the meeting

Have an agenda set for how you will work through the meeting or call.

What do you want to achieve? what is the purpose? - tell them at the start of the call and take control of the situation before they do! Be a leader!

👊🏻 Instead of being too friendly

Remember that you are there as a professional.

There is a reason why doctors never seem that friendly. They don't want to be your best friend - they want to diagnose your problem and then provide you with a solution. This is your job as well. You are not there to make friends - you are there to find out if you can work together.

The main goal of your initial call with a potential client is twofold:

1. You are trying to establish MUTUAL fit - what problem do they have? And can you help them with it?

2. You are trying to get them to the next stage of your sales funnel - (which ideally should be your paid initial design consultation).

That's it!

You should always be trying to move a prospect to the next step of your sales funnel - not selling them on everything you offer.
