How to build a community of more than 200K people
Over the past 10 years I’ve built a community of more than 200,000 people across my different channels.
Here are 20 lessons I’ve learned about community building (in no particular order):
be yourself and stop trying to be like others you admire
a strong online community is the most valuable business asset for a one-person online business
you have to get good at talking on video
people aren’t paying as much attention as you think they are so stop worrying about them
reduce your workload by repurposing good content a few months later - people either haven’t seen it or won’t remember it
give away as much as you can for free - people will still buy from you
stop trying to be like everyone else - share your own stories and perspectives
daily, consistent posting is how you’ll grow
it will take much longer to grow a community than you think it will
find the best sentence in your post and put that first. Getting people to stop their scroll is 95% of the challenge
format content so it’s easy to read (think bullet points, short sentences and emojis)
study the content of creators you admire and use it to inspire your own content
create systems around your content posting - e.g. idea capture, content funnel, posting schedule
 write for one specific person
people need to be told to take action so use lots of CTAs
if content isn’t performing then spend time trying to work out why (and then fix it)
if content is working, spend time trying to work out why (and make more of it)
make decisions based on insights and data
getting people to stop their scroll is 95% of the challenge
provide something new to people or they’ll pay no attention to you
Thanks for reading and catch you in my next post :)
